Checking contact update and suppression features
Check how sales tools update contact fields, preserve corrections and enforce stop requests in configured routes.
Check these features with two controlled cases: a changed contact field and a stop request. Trace each through the candidate tool and its configured CRM and sending connections. A setting labelled “sync” or “do not contact” does not show what changes, when it changes or whether a queued step stops.
Test an update
Name the authoritative record for contact identity, role and account ownership. Decide who may propose and approve changes when a supplier disagrees with the CRM. Start with a controlled record containing a known value, a blank field and an intentionally outdated value.
Check whether the tool fills blanks, overwrites values, asks for review and records the change. Correct a value and inspect it again after the next sync.
Apollo enrichment. In the configured Salesforce connection, check the mapping between Apollo fields and Salesforce fields. Confirm that the intended fields are mapped before enabling writes.
LinkedIn Sales Navigator data validation. In the configured CRM, check whether validation flags potentially outdated contacts. Treat a flag as a review prompt rather than proof that the CRM value should change. CRM integration is available to Advanced Plus users, and Salesforce validation needs additional app setup.
Test a stop request
Keep the person’s wording and scope visible. A request to stop all marketing may require a broader action than an email-link opt-out. If identity or scope is unclear, pause affected sends while an owner resolves it.
Outreach opt-out controls. Check the email opt-out mapping and the custom Salesforce fields mapped for call and SMS opt-outs. Verify how the configured ruleset handles opted-out records and pending steps in each channel. Mapping a field does not prove that the intended stop decision reaches every configured route.
Create a controlled opted-out contact and try importing or enrolling it. Then simulate a new stop request during an active sequence. Inspect the CRM value, the tool’s contact state and pending steps. Repeat after a duplicate import or ownership change.
Record whether the tool blocks, warns or permits each action. Verify any other configured sender through the business’s central suppression process; this feature check does not replace that wider process or a migration review.
Where the Australian Privacy Principles apply, reasonable steps concerning personal-information quality also matter when contact data is used or disclosed. Approve the feature only when the before-and-after record, pending-send state and correction owner are clear. Keep an affected route paused if it cannot represent or enforce the person’s stop request.
